biography

society

"Capitán Furia" Tena began his professional career in the 1973/74 season in the service of his home club América , with which he experienced the most successful era in the club's history and won a total of 15 national and international titles in the almost two decades of his active participation; including six national championships and two victories in the prestigious Copa Interamericana over the Boca Juniors (1978) and Olimpia Asunción (1991). With the exception of his last season in 1992/93, which he spent in the service of Tecos de la UAG , a club from the greater Guadalajara area , he was exclusively under contract with Club America. At the Tecos, however, he only played a few games and finally acted as Alberto Guerra's assistant coach for the rest of the season .

His first job as head coach was in the 1993/94 season at Puebla FC . From 1995 to 1998 he coached Santos Laguna and won his first championship title with this club in Torneo Invierno in 1996 . In 1998/99 he again took on a commitment at Puebla FC and then returned to his long-term parent club América. At the beginning of the 2001/02 season he went to CF Pachuca , with whom he won the Torneo Invierno 2001 and thus his second championship title. This success qualified for participation in the CONCACAF Champions' Cup 2002 , which was also won.

Immediately after his separation from Santos Laguna, he coached the Querétaro FC team in the 2003/04 season . This time, however, the hoped-for success did not materialize and after a meager record of just one win and six draws from 15 games, the collaboration was ended prematurely. His next engagements as head coach at CF Pachuca (2005) and CD Veracruz (2006) were also disappointing and short-lived.

At the beginning of the 2006/07 season he moved again to America; this time, however, not as head coach, but as assistant coach to his brother Luis Fernando Tena . He has been coaching the first division Monarcas Morelia since at least December 2014 .

National team

Between 1977 and 1990 Alfredo Tena completed a total of 30 international appearances for the Mexican national soccer team . He was part of the Mexican World Cup squad in 1978 , where he played in the group matches against Germany (0: 6) and Poland (1: 3).

He made his international debut on February 1, 1977 in a two-minute game in a friendly against Yugoslavia (5-1). A week later he had his first bet over the full 90 minutes against the same opponent (0: 1). His last international match was on April 17, 1990 in a friendly game against Colombia in the USA, which "el Tri" won 2-0.

Notes and individual references

  1. According to National Football Teams it was the 1992/93 season and he came to a total of seven missions, while according to Esmas.com ( Memento from January 23, 2010 in the Internet Archive ) it was the 1991/92 season with only two missions. It can be assumed that the first statement is correct because Guerra was the head coach of the Tecos in the 1992/93 season ( memento from 23 August 2011 in the Internet Archive ).
