Alfredo Zalce

Alfredo Zalce (born January 12, 1908 in Pátzcuaro , † January 19, 2003 in Morelia ) was a Mexican artist.

From 1924 to 1927 he studied at the Academia de San Carlos . In 1930 he founded an art school in Taxco ( Guerrero ). From 1931 he studied lithography with Emilio Amero . From 1932 to 1935 he was an art teacher at various art schools in Mexico City . In 1932 the first solo exhibition of Zalce's works took place. In 1934 he and other artists founded the Liga de Escritores y Artistas Revolucionarios (League of Revolutionary Writers and Artists, LEAR), in 1937 he was a founding member of the Taller de Gráfica Popular (workshop of folk graphic artists, together with Ángel Bracho , Alberto Beltrán , Leopoldo Méndez and Raul Angúiano) TGP). In 1945 he made a trip to Yucatán , Campeche and Quintana Roo . In 1950 he moved to Morelia . In 1952 he became director of the Morelia Art School. In 1999 he joined the Academia de Artes .
