Algernon Darius Crumpler (born December 23, 1977 in Greenville , North Carolina ) is a retired American football player on the tight end position . In his career he was active for the Atlanta Falcons , Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots in the National Football League (NFL).

Early years

Crumpler went to high school in Wilmington , North Carolina . He later attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . In his three years for the college football team, he was elected to the first-team All- ACC twice .

NFL

Atlanta Falcons

Crumpler was selected in the 2001 NFL Draft in the second round in 35th place by the Atlanta Falcons . He caught his first two passes on September 23, 2001, against the Carolina Panthers . He caught his first touchdown on October 21, 2001 in the game against the New Orleans Saints . After the 2003 season , he was elected to the Pro Bowl for the first time. In 2004 , 2005 and 2006 he was re-elected to the Pro Bowl. In 2006 he scored eight touchdowns , which is his career best. On February 15, 2008, Crumpler was released from the Falcons.

Tennessee Titans

On March 2, 2008, he signed a contract with the Tennessee Titans .

New England Patriots

On March 24, 2010, Crumpler signed a contract with the New England Patriots . He was released on July 29, 2011.

Personal

Crumpler's brother Carlester Crumpler , played tight end for the Seattle Seahawks and the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL.
