Algimantas Valantinas

Algimantas Valantinas (born October 29, 1961 in Buknaičiai, Mažeikiai Rajongemeinde ) is a Lithuanian lawyer, judge , President of the Court of Appeal of Lithuania since 2016 , former Attorney General of Lithuania (2005-2010).

Life

After graduating from high school, Valantinas studied law in Vilnius . In 1985 he graduated from Vilnius University Law Faculty with a degree in law. From 1985 to 1988 he worked as a public prosecutor's assistant and investigator at the Kaišiadory Public Prosecutor's Office . He then did military service in the Soviet Army for two years. After that he was public prosecutor of the Širvintos public prosecutor's office until 1991 , at times also senior public prosecutor.

From 1991 to 1994 Valantinas worked as the chief prosecutor of the Jonava district attorney and then for five years until 1999 he was judge and also chairman of the Jonava District Court . He then served as Director of the Judiciary Department at the Ministry of Justice of Lithuania from 1999 to 2000 . He then worked for five years at the Second District Court in Vilnius and became its court president from March 2, 2005 to October 20, 2005 .

On October 20, 2005, he was appointed Attorney General by President Valdas Adamkus . Since the beginning of the activity, one of the focal points has been public relations and creating communication and connections with society and the media. Public relations representatives have been appointed in numerous public prosecutor's offices in many Lithuanian rayons. His political views are rated as liberal by the media. His successor from February 2010 was Raimondas Petrauskas (acting).

From April 2010 Valantinas was again a judge of the 2nd Vilnius District Court . From 2013 to 2015 he was a judge in the Vilnius District Court . Since December 2015 he has been a judge and since 2016 chairman of the Lithuanian Court of Appeal ( Lietuvos apeliacinis teismas ).
