Ali Atalan

Ali Atalan (born January 5, 1968 in Midyat , Turkey ) is a German - Turkish politician of Yazidi descent ( Die Linke , HDP ).

Life

Ali Atalan grew up in a Yazidi family and came to Germany in 1985. After graduating from high school, he studied political science and sociology at the Ruhr University Bochum and graduated with a degree in social science.

In Dülmen he was a member of the council's social committee from 1990 to 1994. From 1998 to 2001 he was active in Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen . Since 2001 he has been a member of the Die Linke party .

From 2004 to 2010 he was a council member of the city of Münster , from 2009 in the parliamentary group of the party Die Linke . From 2010 to 2012 he was a member of the NRW state parliament in the 15th electoral period. After moving into the state parliament, he resigned his council mandate. In 2014 Atalan returned to the Münster City Council.

In the 2015 parliamentary elections in Turkey , Ali Atalan was elected to the Turkish parliament for the democratic-socialist and pro-Kurdish Halkların Demokratik Partisi (Democratic Party of the Peoples, HDP).
