Ali Fazal (born October 15, 1986 in Lucknow ) is an Indian film actor .

Life

Ali Fazal was born in Lucknow in 1986 to a Muslim family. He studied at Doon College of Engineering in Dehradun and was a successful basketball player at the national level until he was forced to retire after an accident in which he injured his arm. Fazal graduated from St. Xaviers in Mumbai . His family had nothing to do with the movie business. Prior to his acting career, he appeared in TV commercials for Pizza Hut , Union Bank of India, and Micromax Mobile.

In a cinema he then met the director Rajkumar Hirani , in whose film 3 Idiots he would later get a role. Before that, however, in 2008, the film The Other End of the Line came out , in which he got the role of Vij. In 2013 the film Fukrey came out in which he starred in Zafar. In the same year he was seen in the role of Kabir in the film Baat Bann Gayi . In 2014 he starred in the film Sonali Cable Raghu Pawar and in the film Bobby Jasoos Tasawur.

In 2015, the movie Fast & Furious 7 was released in which he played Safar in a small role. In the film Victoria & Abdul , which will be released in theaters in September 2017, Fazal took on the title role of Munshi Abdul Karim , playing alongside Judi Dench as an Indian servant who forged a friendship with Queen Victoria .

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.

Fazal can also play the guitar and write short stories and poetry.
