Ali Vyacheslav Sergejewitsch Polossin ( Russian Али Вячеслав Сергеевич Полосин , English Vyacheslav Polosin ; born in Moscow in 1956 ) is a Russian scientist and politician as well as a prominent figure in Islam in Russia , who is considered an expert on Muslim-Christian dialogue . He is a former Russian Orthodox priest. From 1990 to 1993 he was a member of the Duma .

Life

Vyacheslav Polossin is a former archpriest ( protoiereus ) of the Russian Orthodox Church ( Kaluga ) who converted to Islam in 1999 and took the name Ali. He is a member of the Expert Council of the Russian Mufti-Council and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Islam Fund .

He is one of the supporters of the Wasaṭīya concept known by Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi - the President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars and co-founder and chairman of the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR) , an “Islam of the center, beyond extremism and Bigotry".

Polossin has been Director of Interreligious Dialogue at the Moscow al-Wasatiya Center (“Аль-Васатыйя”), the Russian branch of the International al-Wasatiya Center in Kuwait , since 2011 . He is the author of several books on comparative theology .
