The scientific and educational center al Wassatiyja ( Russian Научно просветительского центра "Аль Васатыйя" Nauchno proswetitelskowo centra Al Wassatyja ; scientific. Transliteration : Naučno prosvetitel'skogo centra Al 'Vasatyjja ) in the Russian capital Moscow is an autonomous non-profit organization that from the Russian Fund in Support of Islamic Culture, Science and Education ( Fond podderschki islamskoi kultury, nauki i obrasowanija ), the Russian Islamic University (in the city of Kazan ,Republic of Tatarstan ) and the Institute of Theology and International Relations (in the city of Makhachkala , Republic of Dagestan ) was established and contractually with the International Wasatiyya Center (International Center al-Wasatiyya) in Kuwait is connected. The center in Kuwait, also known as the International Moderation Center (abbr. IMC ), is in turn an organization affiliated with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Religious Foundations and Islamic Affairs .

The main objective of the Russian center is according to its own information (wasatiyya.ru): to help return the Muslim consciousness to the Koranic "al-wasatiyya" concept ([...]), which is extremes (radicalism) in all areas of the life of Muslims refused to seek a "golden mean" in every point of private and social life, for a balanced neighborhood with representatives of other religions and beliefs.

One of his main tasks is therefore to organize the Islamic education system in the spirit of the Koranic " golden mean " ( wasaṭīya , Arabic وسطية), d. H. the concept known in particular from Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi - the president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars and co-founder and chairman of the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR).

The main Kuwaiti organization and its Russian branch were the main organizers of the high-profile International Theological Conference "Islamic Doctrine Against Radicalism" on April 25-26. May 2012 in Moscow at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel , together with the International Union of Muslim Scholars.

According to the website of the Russian center, the organization of advanced training courses in Kuwait is being carried out in coordination with the Kuwaiti brothers in faith.

Adil al-Fallah , Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Religious Foundations and Islamic Affairs, played an important role in setting up the center in Russia, developing ties with Muslim communities in Moscow, the Volga region and southern Russia.

Ali Vyacheslav Polosin has been the director of the Moscow Vasatiyya Center since 2011.

The inconsistent behavior of the Russian government in banning the Muslim Brotherhood , but allowing an organization operated with a similar ideology as the Wassatyja Center , was pointed out , for example, by the British think tank Chatham House in London .

"The authorities never stopped looking for the right person to declare a fatwa on jihad in the North Caucasus. Ali-Vyacheslav Polosin, a former Christian Orthodox priest who converted to Islam, energetically worked toward this goal and became the new face of Islam in Russia. On his initiative, it was decided to invite Sheikh Karadagi, the secretary general of the World Union of Muslim Scholars, to Dagestan. The republic's official clerics must have been convinced that they could cast the situation in the republic to the visitor in a favorable light and that Karadagi, being uninformed about the real situation, would provide them with the right fatwa ( http: //mahachkala.bezformata .ru / listnews / delegatciya-vsemirnogo-soyuza-musulmanskih / 7845274 / ). “The Al-Wasatiyya Center in Kuwait promotes 'centrist' Islam not only in Russia but globally as well. Ideologically, 'centrism' or al-wasatiyya is conventionally associated with al-Qaradawi who coined the term. The Al-Wasatiyya Centre's existence in Russia points to the inconsistency of the Russian government in banning the Muslim Brotherhood, yet allowing an organization with a similar ideology to operate.
