Ali al-Qaradaghi

Sheikh Ali Mohieddin al-Qaradaghi (born in 1949 in Qaradagh , as-Sulaimaniya , Kurdistan , Iraq ) is an influential Sunni Islamic scholar , an expert on Sharia and Fiqh related to Islamic finance . He is Professor of Law at the Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Studies at the University of Qatar in Doha and is a Qatari national.

Life

Al-Qaradaghi is the Secretary General of the originally in Dublin based International Union of Muslim Scholars (International Union of Muslim Scholars; abbr. IUMS, now based in Doha, capital of Qatar , under the chairmanship of Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi ). He is also Vice President of the World Association for the Rapprochement of Islamic Schools of Thought , based in Tehran, and a member of many other Islamic organizations, including the International Islamic Fiqh Academy , the Organization for Islamic Cooperation and the European Council for Fatwa and Research . He is also the founder and president of the Islamic Kurdish League, founded in 1988, and president of the board of trustees of the University of Human Development in the city of Sulaimaniya .

Qaradaghi is Chairman of the Sharia Board of Directors of Qatar First Bank (QFB) and a member of the Sharia Board of Directors of several Islamic institutions and banks , including Qatar National Bank Al Islami , Dubai Islamic Bank , Doha Bank Islamic Branch , Qatar Islamic Insurance , The Gulf Investment House and Al Ahli United Bank . He began studying Sharia law at the University of Baghdad and graduated with a doctorate from al-Azhar University in Cairo .

Qaradaghi has written numerous works on Islamic economics and comparative jurisprudence.

He has received numerous prizes and honors and is a member of numerous councils, committees and associations.

He was also one of the signatories of the Amman Message ( Amman Message ).

Ali al-Qaradaghi was one of the participants in the International Theological Conference "Islamic Teaching Against Radicalism" (Russian Международная богословская конференция «Исламская доктрина плазмарик. May 2012 in Moscow .

Media reception

According to Chechen historian and political analyst Mairbek Vatchagaev (in an article published by the American Jamestown Foundation ), Ali al-Qaradaghi and the International Union of Muslim Scholars play an important role for Moscow in matters of intra-Russian Islamic stability:

"Russian authorities do not simply want Sheikh Ali al-Qaradaghi to declare the jihad in the North Caucasus to be illegal. Moscow regards this international Islamic organization as a potential means to control part of Russia's own Muslim population, which could issue fatwas on important questions of Islam and be recognized. Moscow, however, fails to see that only those Muslims who already recognize the official Muslim clergy will listen to al-Qaradaghi. That portion of the Muslim community in Russia which deems cooperation between the authorities and the Muslim clergy unacceptable will not be influenced by al-Qaradaghi. "

He is an active supporter of Yusuf al-Qaradawi and his project "Muhammad: A Mercy for All" and called on all Muslims to fund this project at IslamOnline.net (IOL) (with donations to the Qatar Islamic Bank in Doha , Qatar ) and morally support:

Der Spiegel reports on his reaction to the murder of the Muslim students in Chapel Hill shortly after the Paris attacks:
