After her training, Marie Knittelfelder worked for many years as a teacher at the elementary school of the market town of Straß in Styria . Early on, she occasionally published poems in anthologies and magazines under the pseudonym Aline Aliberti . In 1927 she published the memoirs of the sculptor and woodcarver Hans Brandstetter, who died in 1925, under her code name .

Call from the border in the Nazi collection . The poet took part in a book of Styrian art , which was published by Paul Anton Keller in 1942 and was intended to reveal a cross-section of the literary art of Styria at the time.

After retiring, Marie Knittelfelder spent her old age in the community of Pölfing-Brunn not far from her place of birth and continued to work as a writer. In 1955 her first and only book published during her lifetime was published. In 1957 she received the honorary citizenship of her home community of Wies, and in 1958 the City of Graz Poetry Prize.

In 1960, one year after her death, the community of Straß named a green area in the village after Marie Knittelfelder / Aline Aliberti and put up a memorial plaque there. Five more books were published posthumously, and their estate, initially looked after by Paul Anton Keller, is now in the possession of the Styrian State Library.

In 2011, the Wieser Marktplatz was virtually renamed Aline-Aliberti-Platz by the Graz artist Erwin Posarnig in an art campaign as part of the program focus on art in public space of the Wies-based cultural initiative Kürbis . The board is on the building of the New Middle School Wies.
