Christian Teissl

Christian Teissl (born August 23, 1979 in Graz ) is an Austrian writer .

Life

Christian Teissl grew up in southern Styria . He completed his studies in German and philosophy with a master's degree . As a freelance writer, he works for various magazines and publishers. He has lived mainly in Graz since 1998 .

Christian Teissl is primarily the author of poems , and he also writes literary criticism essays , feature articles and stories and acts as publisher of texts of forgotten Austrian authors. He paid particular attention to the poet Ernst Goll , who died early and was a contemporary of Georg Trakl . From 2010 to 2012 he was among the staff of the Styrian Medieval Literature Paths project , which was initiated and directed by the Graz mediavist Wernfried Hofmeister. This resulted in a dissertation project at the German Medieval Studies at the University of Graz on the Styrian minstrel and verse novellist Herrand von Wildon and his literary reception up to the present day.

In the Rosegger year 2018, he published the book “You feel like you are in the desert”, a highly acclaimed biographical essay about the old age of Peter Rosegger against the background of the First World War.

Teissl is a member of the Austrian Writers 'Association and the Austrian PEN Club and has been a board member of the Podium authors' association for several years . For 2016 and 2017 he was appointed editor of the Linz literary yearbook Facetten , and since autumn 2017 he has been a lecturer in poetics at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

Poems by Christian Teissl have been translated into Polish, Italian, Serbian, Greek and Bulgarian, among others.
