Free occupation (Austria)

In Austria, liberal professions are professions in the public interest that are not covered by the trade regulations but are regulated in special laws and have their own professional law . So the term denotes a profession .

On the concept of the independent profession

The liberal professions represent important basic functions of civil society with a “significant socio-political role”. All of them are highly responsible professions that are closely related to the principles of the rule of law , closeness to the citizen , high health and quality standards and consumer protection . They also represent a “mediator between citizens and the state ”. They are among the most socially respected professions.

  • responsible and
  • professionally independent

intellectual services in the interests of their clients and the general public. Their professional practice is subject to specific professional and ethical conditions in accordance with state legislation and the law autonomously set by the respective professional representation, which guarantee and develop professionalism, quality and the special relationship of trust that exists with the client. "

In addition, under company law - in the commercial register - the corporations under public law ( regional authorities , authorities ), ecclesiastical institutions ( dioceses , monasteries ), and the like, provided they have no other economic legal form.

Institutions

The Federal Conference of the Liberal Professions of Austria is the umbrella organization of the chambers of the liberal professions. Around 170,000 employees are organized in the association. The freelancers not organized in chambers are not included.
