Alix of France, Countess of Blois

Alix of France (* 1150 ; † 1197/1198) was the second daughter of King Louis VII from his first marriage to Eleanor of Aquitaine . She was baptized after her aunt Petronilla , who was also called "Alix". The birth of a second daughter instead of the required son overshadowed the already broken marriage of their parents, whereupon the connection was canceled.

Alix and her older sister Marie were separated from their mother, who had to leave France immediately, went to Poitiers and there married the future King Henry II . The children Alix and Marie were declared legitimate. Ludwig married twice more. Alix's half-brothers ruled France ( Philip ) and England ( Richard and Johann ).

In 1164 she married Theobald V. von Blois , her sister his brother Heinrich . When Alix's husband moved east, she took over the reign, which she also did on behalf of her underage son after his death in 1191 .

There were seven children from his marriage to Theobald V. von Blois:

  1. Theobald, † young
  2. Philipp, † young
  3. Heinrich, † young
  4. Ludwig († 1205)
  5. Alix, Abbess of Fontevrault
  6. Margarete (* around 1170 † July 12, 1230), Countess Palatine of Burgundy, 1218 Countess of Blois and Châteaudun , ⚭ 1) Hugues III. d'Oisy , castellan ( châtelain ) of Cambrai ; ⚭ 2) Otto I , Count Palatine of Burgundy; ⚭ 3) Walter II of Avesnes , Lord of Avesnes , Guise etc.
  7. Elisabeth (Isabella) († 1248), who was her nephew Theobald VI. left the county of Chartres and the lordship of Château-Renault .
