Alja Velkaverh

Alja Velkaverh (born May 15, 1982 in Koper , Yugoslavia , now Slovenia ) is a Slovenian flutist .

Live and act

Velkaverh first studied with Fedja Rupel at the Ljubljana Music Academy until 2002 . She then continued her training in the flute concert subject at the Vienna University of Music with Hansgeorg Schmeiser . At the same time as her thorough training, she completed postgraduate studies at the Accademia Lorenzo Perosi in Biella in Italy with Peter-Lukas Graf , which she completed in autumn 2004.

Velkaverh performs regularly in Austria, Slovenia and Germany, such as at the summer concerts in Piran, with the Bamberg String Quartet, with the Stuttgart Philharmonic and participated in the 2005 Vienna Flute Festival. She was a member of the Vienna Jeunesse Orchestra , and in the summer of the previous year she appeared as solo flutist in the festival orchestra of the International Bach Academy Stuttgart under Helmuth Rilling . In 2006 she was awarded the prize for young artists of the European cultural foundation Pro Europa in the Federal Chancellery in Berlin. At the 2006 talent exchange organized by the Austrian cultural broadcaster oe1 ORF , she was presented as an outstanding young artist in her field.

Velkaverh was engaged as solo flutist with the Bamberg Symphony in the 2006/2007 season . From January 2008 she held the position of solo flutist with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra . On July 19, 2008 she performed under the direction of Christian Funke as a conductor in the ensemble of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra at a performance of the Six Brandenburg Concerts by JS Bach at the Thailand Cultural Center in Bangkok.

Since the 2009 season Velkaverh principal flute is the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne and has been teaching since 2015 flute at the Academy of Music and Dance Cologne , department Aachen .
