All because of Benjamin (original title: À cause d'un garçon ) is a French television film from 2002 that tells the story of the coming out of a homosexual student.

action

The 17-year-old schoolboy Vincent falls in love with his classmate Benjamin. Nobody suspects Vincent's homosexuality in his family, at school or in his swimming club. Vincent has a girlfriend Noémi, but he is secretly more attracted to boys his age and young men. Vincent is afraid of coming out. By chance, Vincent's homosexuality becomes known at the school and he is then subjected to attacks by some classmates. Vincent defends himself against these attacks with the help of his swimming coach and some good friends.

criticism

“The story is told from an abundance of different perspectives, some of which seem clichéd and artificial. The cautious staging, based entirely on the characters, and the convincing play of the actors make the different emotional worlds believable and the problem film a sympathetic plea for tolerance. "
