Alliander NV , based in Arnhem, is a Dutch gas and electricity network operator and service provider for energy networks. The company specializes in intelligent network solutions .

The subsidiary allego builds and maintains infrastructure for charging electric vehicles . It was founded in September 2013 as Alliander Mobility Services and renamed Allego in 2014. Allego has been operating the charging stations of the state of Berlin in Germany since 2015 and began building a network of fast charging stations along the German autobahn in autumn 2015.

history

According to the law on independent network operation (Wet onafhankelijk netbeheer) passed in 2006, Dutch network operators are no longer allowed to belong to the same group of companies that also operates energy production and trading since January 1, 2011. With the unbundling of the network operation from the other business areas of the energy companies ( ownership unbundling ), the Dutch energy market should be more liberalized and distortions of competition eliminated. As a result, on July 1, 2009, the Nuon Group was split into a network operator (Alliander NV) and a production and trading company ( Nuon Energy).

The subsidiary Allego was sold to the French investment company Meridiam on May 31, 2018 . The operation is ensured unchanged.

Ownership structure

The Dutch municipalities and local authorities are the sole shareholders of Alliander NV. These include the Dutch provinces of Gelderland (45%) and Noord-Holland (9%), the city of Amsterdam (9%) and BV Falcon Holding Company (13%), of which the province of Friesland is a partner .

Most important business areas

Alliander is responsible for the maintenance, expansion and modernization of energy networks and supplies over six million people in the Netherlands. The Liander and Liandon brands are important business units of the Alliander Group. Liander, which generates around 90% of the group's turnover, operates the gas and electricity distribution networks in the Dutch regions of Gelderland and North Holland as well as in large parts of Flevoland, Friesland and South Holland. The Liandon business unit operates private energy networks, primarily for industrial customers. In Germany, the company is active with its subsidiary Alliander AG.

Intelligent network technologies

In 2012, Alliander NV successfully installed and commissioned the first fully-fledged “Smart Grid” in the greater Amsterdam area. Around 35,000 residents there are supplied with renewable energies through the “intelligent” energy networks from Alliander. In addition, a nationwide charging infrastructure for electromobility is being set up. The project is part of the Amsterdam Smart City (ASC) innovation platform, a cooperative made up of around 100 companies, representatives of public administration, research institutions and community projects from 36 sub-municipalities. The aim of the platform is to make Amsterdam the greenest and most socially sustainable metropolis in the world by 2040. In 2011 the project received the “European City Star Award”.

Regional focus

Heinsberg

Alliander has been operating the city of Heinsberg's electricity network since 2001 and the gas network since January 1, 2014. Alliander develops and modernizes the electricity and gas network in Heinsberg. Opportunities are created for households to obtain energy from renewable sources and, provided they have a block-type thermal power station, a fuel cell or a photovoltaic system, to ensure that excess energy is fed into the grid.

Berlin

Alliander Stadtlicht GmbH has been operating around 2100 traffic lights in the State of Berlin since 2006; In 2015, the contract as general contractor for Berlin's traffic light systems was extended by 10 years. At the beginning of 2014 Alliander showed interest in the concessions for the electricity and gas network in Berlin, but the management was slowed down by the Dutch municipalities as owners in the expansion.

In 2015, the application of the former subsidiary Allego GmbH to operate the charging stations in Berlin was successful . The corresponding contracts with Allego GmbH were extended in 2019.
