Allotropa is a plant from the family of the Ericaceae (Ericaceae) and the only species in the genus.

description

Allotropa virgata is a chlorophyllless , myco-heterotrophic herbaceous plant . Their roots are fibrous, the shoot and inflorescence axis sprouting from them stands upright and is striped red and white. The leaves are simple, there are no previous leaves .

The inflorescence is many flowered, the five bloom are in a petal circle, are non grow and bell-shaped. The ten (rarely nine to eleven) stamens are as long as the perianth , the anthers turn around late. The stylus is depressed, the scar widened.

The seeds are linear, thin-walled and have elongated cells. The number of chromosomes is n = 13.

distribution

The species is found in the western United States at altitudes between 80 and 3000 meters.

Species and genus were first described by Asa Gray in 1858 .
