Almuth Tharan

Almuth Tharan (born September 25, 1963 in Zerbst ) is a German language mediator and state politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). She was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives from 1999 to 2001.

Life

After graduating from the Extended High School in Zerbst in 1982, Almuth Tharan studied Asian Studies at the Berlin Humboldt University with a degree as a language mediator for English and Hindi . From 1987 to 1990 she was an editor at Radio Berlin International .

In 1989 she joined the Green Party in the GDR , which merged with the West German Greens in 1990. From 1995 to 1999 and again since 2001 she has been a member of the district assembly of Prenzlauer Berg and Pankow . In the meantime she had a seat in the Berlin House of Representatives. She was the Berlin state chairwoman of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen from 2003 to 2007.

From 2008 to 2017 she was a member of the Independent Institute for Environmental Issues , most recently as a project manager and board member.
