Alois Arnegger (born March 9, 1879 in Vienna ; † August 11, 1963 there ) was an Austrian landscape painter .

Life

Arnegger studied in Vienna at the Academy of Fine Arts with Robert Russ and August Eisenmenger and was best known for his work as a landscape painter. At first he created images of Austrian landscapes such as the Alps or the wine-growing town of Senftenberg , where he often spent his summer holidays. After his study trips to Italy in the 1920s, his focus was increasingly on Mediterranean coastal landscapes, including views of Naples , Capri and San Remo .

Like some other landscape painters, Arnegger tried to satisfy the society , which had been torn by industrialization and wars, and to revive its longing for an intact world and intact nature (e.g. “Alpine romance”), which ultimately made him famous .

Arnegger died in Vienna in 1963 at the age of 84. One of his sons Gottfried Arnegger (1908–1943) was also a painter.
