Alois Mayr

Alois Mayr (born March 6, 1938 in Ahlen , † August 25, 2014 in Münster ) was a German geographer . Mayr taught regional geography and spatial planning at the Institute for Geography at the University of Leipzig from 1994 to 2003 and at the same time acted as director of the non-university institute for regional geography . Before that, he had been Professor of Geography and Regional Planning at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster from 1977 . He had been a member of the Geographical Commission for Westphalia since 1982 , of which he was chairman from 1983 to 1996.

Mayr received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon in 2003 and the Robert Gradmann Medal of the German Academy for Regional Studies in 2004 .
