The German Academy for Regional Studies ( DAL , until 1995 Central Committee for German Regional Studies ) is a non-profit, registered association based in Leipzig , which is dedicated to geographical research in German-speaking Central Europe .
The DAL was founded in 1882 during the German Geographers' Day in Halle.
Goals and fields of work
One of the fundamental goals of the DAL is to promote regional geographic research. To this end, it works with scientists, public institutions and private institutions and companies. The current results as well as new approaches in geographic research are discussed with them at various conferences and congresses. At the political level, the DAL advises decision-makers on questions of state and regional planning . The results obtained are made available to the specialist audience through the publication of scientific publications.
The work of the DAL can currently be divided into five areas, each headed by a full member. Cooperation and coordination, cultural landscape development , ecological landscape analysis and environmental assessment , cultural studies and regional geography as well as planning and policy advice. These areas usually include several working groups and smaller working groups . While the working groups include long-term topics to be worked on, the working groups are usually short-term projects.
Members
The academy currently has 65 members, including 39 full members . The chairman is the Bochum geomorphologist Harald Zepp . The majority of the members are professors at universities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, including well-known geographers such as Hans Heinrich Blotevogel , Heinz Heineberg , Hans Gebhardt and Karl Ruppert .
publishing company
The association has been self-publishing since 1975 and issues recognized publications such as the quarterly reports. Geography and regional studies (until 2012 reports on German regional studies ) or research on German regional studies .
