Aloys Mayr
Aloys Mayr , also written Alois (born December 3, 1807 in Stadtamhof , today Regensburg , † December 6, 1890 in Munich ), was a German mathematician and professor at the University of Würzburg .
Mayr studied at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he was a candidate for the theological faculty. In 1837 he became associate professor of mathematics at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg (as successor to Johann Schön (1771-1839) and his successor Andreas Metz (1767-1839)) and curator of the Astronomical Institute. In 1840 he was given a full professorship in mathematics. He was chairman of a Catholic association founded in Würzburg in 1848. In 1883 he retired.
He dealt with analysis, but as a professor he hardly got beyond the differential calculus he had already worked out in his dissertation .
Until Eduard Selling was appointed, he was the only mathematician at the University of Würzburg for twenty years.
