Alois Tampier

Alois Tampier (born June 20, 1913 in Weitra ; † July 22, 2007 ) was an Austrian clergyman and poet .

Life

After attending the Melk Abbey High School , Tampier began studying theology in St. Pölten . Tampier was ordained a priest on June 29, 1937 in St. Pölten by Bishop Michael Memelauer . He then worked as a chaplain in Kirchberg, Thaya, St. Valentin, Heiligeneich and Langenlois. In 1946 Tampier was appointed Ordinary Secretary, 1955 Head of the Pastoral Office and 1961 Ordinary Chancellor. 1955 doctorate Tampier at the University of Vienna as doctor of theology and in 1958 Vice Offizial at St. Pölten diocesan court. In 1969 Bishop Franz Žak appointed him vicar general . Tampier held this office throughout the bishop's tenure until 1991. In 1975 he became a prosynod judge.

Prelate Tampier also worked as director or national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Austria ( Missio ), as diocesan president of the Marian Congregation , president of the Austrian Borromeo Association, chairman of the board of trustees of Caritas and was also chairman of the diocesan commission for the permanent diaconate. 1977 he was appointed to cathedral dean and 1987 to cathedral provost . In 1979 the prelate was honored with the Silver Commander's Cross of Honor for Services to the State of Lower Austria .

Tampier was also the author of poems and stories that he wrote in German and Latin and published in ten books.
