Christoph Erler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Christoph Erler (born May 4, 1783 in Langenleuba-Niederhain , † April 5, 1854 in Tobitschau, today Tovačov ) was an Austrian organ builder.

Life

Christoph Erler was born in the village of Langenleuba-Niederhain (now Thuringia ), then part of the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg, as the son of a landlord. He married Maria Anna Kober, the eldest daughter of the organ builder Ignaz Kober , with whom he probably also learned the trade of organ building and whose workshop successor he was. In 1823 he succeeded Johann Wiest , court organ and instrument maker. After Erler's death, his sons Ferdinand Adam (1821–1903) and Alois (approx. 1827–1895) took over the father's workshop.
