Alphons Victor Müller
Alphons Victor Müller (also Müller-Rom ; * 1867 in Diedenhofen , Lorraine, † February 14, 1930 in Rome ) was a Christian clergyman , journalist and historian , at times he was a member of the Dominican order .
Müller attended high school in Diedenhofen and in Montigny near Metz. In 1885 he joined the Dominican Order in Venlo and was ordained a priest in 1891 after completing his studies. In the following year he started working at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research in Vienna. Just six years later, he left the order and converted to the Protestant faith, which, according to his friend Edmund Freiherr Raitz von Frenz , was criticized in some Catholic newspapers. He initially worked for the Monumenta Germaniae . He then settled in Rome, where he worked as a writer and journalist for the Daily Rundschau . In his writings, he was sometimes critical of the belief in the Madonna in the Catholic Church, and later he wrote about Martin Luther and the theological sources he used. Müller was considered educated and modest, and even after leaving the Catholic Church, he still enjoyed a good reputation among various people in the Vatican. He died in Rome at the age of about 63, the date of his death could be reconstructed from a dated letter.
