Alphonso Roy Jackson

Alphonso Roy Jackson (born September 9, 1945 in Marshall , Texas ) was the 13th building minister of the United States .

Beginnings

Born in Texas , Jackson grew up in a family of 12 children. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science (1968) and a master's degree in school management from Truman State University, and a law doctorate (JD) from Washington University School of Law in 1973 .

Career

In 1977 Alphonso Jackson was responsible for the public safety of the city of St. Louis and was the managing director of the St. Louis Housing Authority . While there, he also became an assistant professor at the University of Missouri and later head of the Department of Public and Assisted Housing in Washington

From January 1989 to July 1996, Jackson President and CEO of the Housing Authority of Dallas . He later became president of TEXAS, a major Austin- based utility company, and was given a seat on the Texas Southern University board of directors by Governor George W. Bush in 1995 , which he held until he was appointed Minister in 2003.

Proposed by George W. Bush - US President since 2001 - as the new Minister for Construction in January 2004, he was confirmed by the Senate on March 31, 2004 . On March 31, 2008, Jackson announced his resignation, which took effect on April 18, 2008. His successor as Minister of Construction was Steve Preston .
