Maurice Edwin "Moon" Landrieu (born July 23, 1930 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) is a former American politician ( Democratic Party ).

biography

After attending the Jesuit High School in New Orleans, he graduated from 1948 to 1952 to study economics at Loyola University , he with a Bachelor in Business Administration ended (BBA). He then studied law at his alma mater and graduated there in 1954. As a result, he did his military service in the United States Army .

He began his political career in 1960 when he was elected to the House of Representatives from Louisiana , in which he represented the 12th constituency until 1966. He was then a member of the New Orleans City Council until 1970. On May 2, 1970, he became Mayor of New Orleans and held that office until May 1, 1978.

On 24 September 1979 he was of US President Jimmy Carter , succeeding Patricia Roberts Harris to Minister of Housing and Urban Development ( Secretary of Housing and Urban Development ) in the Cabinet appointed, which he by the end of Carter's term in office on January 20, 1981 belonged.

Most recently, he was a judge on the Louisiana 4th District Court of Appeal from 1992 to 2000 .

Moon Landrieu, who has been married since 1954, has nine children, including US Senator for Louisiana , Mary Landrieu , and former Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu , who was elected Mayor of New Orleans on February 7, 2010.
