The Prima DE 33 B AC is a diesel locomotive with diesel-electric drive from the Prima family of the manufacturer Alstom .

299 of these locomotives are currently in operation or under construction as the BB 75000 series for the French State Railways ( SNCF ). They have been used mainly in freight transport since 2008 .

history

One locomotive in the colors of SNCF Infra and two in the livery of SNCF Fret

At the beginning of the 21st century, the need for new diesel locomotives at the SNCF became more and more urgent. The existing vehicle fleet consisted of more than 30 year old locomotives of the series BB 67200 , BB 67300 , BB 67400 , A1AA1A 68000 . Thereupon it was decided to procure a new mainline diesel locomotive. The tender for a 1,800 kW locomotive began in 2001. In November 2002, Alstom and Siemens formed a consortium, which in 2003 was awarded the contract. The contract for 500 vehicles, 400 of which are firmly ordered, was signed on February 27, 2004. This is the largest order for mainline diesel locomotives in Europe since the 1970s, and the average age of freight locomotives should drop to 10 to 15 years. 3 to 4 locomotives are delivered per month, the last ones will probably go into operation in 2015. The first locomotives were completed in the spring of 2006 and carried out test drives in the Wegberg-Wildenrath test center .

On March 27, 2007, the series received its approval for France by the Établissement public de sécurité ferroviaire (comparable to the Federal Railway Authority ) , the first 25 locomotives were accepted by the SNCF. Meanwhile, in August 2007, the SNCF tendered an order for a series of 45 (with the option of a further 35) locomotives with a traction power of at least 2000 kW, since the 1600 kW of the Alstom Prima DE 33 B AC are apparently insufficient in places. These locomotives are to be used in France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. In January 2012, stricter emissions standards came into force. Therefore the locomotives from BB 75133 onwards have to use different engines, and the exhaust system has been changed.

Due to the decline in freight traffic, 18 locomotives were repainted in gray and have since been available to the leasing company Akiem . A few more were rented to VFLI . The colors of SNCF Infra (comparable to the DB Bahnbau Gruppe ) carry 20 locomotives. All others are painted by SNCF Fret . The contract value is said to be € 1 billion.

technology

The outward appearance of the locomotives ordered is largely based on the related electric locomotives of the Alstom Prima family. The frames, locomotive bodies , driver's cabs, bogies, drive systems and the pneumatic brakes come from these . The components of the motor system, cooling system, battery and hydraulics, which are largely identical to those of the Siemens ER 20 BU, come from Siemens Transportation Systems . For capacity reasons, the boxes for 130 locomotives are also being built at Siemens in Munich ; however, final assembly takes place at the Alstom plant in Belfort, France, where the rest of the locomotives are also produced.

183 locomotives (150 of the original order of 400 and 33 reordered in December 2006) will also be equipped for use in Germany, the others only for use in France.

business

The locomotives are mainly used in freight transport in France. Akiem locomotives are also rarely used in Germany.
