Alstonia congensis is a tree in the dog venom family from West and Central Africa .
description
Alstonia congensis grows as an evergreen tree up to 30 meters high. The trunk diameter reaches up to about 1 meter. The trunk is corrugated at the base or buttress roots are formed. The brownish to gray bark is smooth to rough. The tree has a milky sap .
The simple, short-stalked, leathery and bare leaves are arranged in a whorl of four to eight. The short petiole is up to 1 centimeter long and there are colletuses at the base . The entire, acuminate to acuminate leaves are elliptical to obovate, -eilanzettlich and 8-26 inches long and 3.5-11.5 inches wide. The nerve is pinnate with many side veins.
Terminal, stiffly stalked and branched inflorescences consisting of zymous partial inflorescences are formed. The fragrant, stalked, small, cream-colored to yellowish or light pink flowers are hermaphroditic and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The small, up to 3 millimeters long sepals are short overgrown and almost bare. The hairy petals are fused in a tube up to 7.5 millimeters long with up to 10 millimeters long, obovate lobes. The short, almost seated stamens are attached to the top of the corolla tube. The upper and constant two-chamber ovary , with strongly approximated carpels , is nearly bare, the included pen has a pen head having a collar and a cylindrical, split scar . There is a discus .
The linear and very narrow follicles , hanging in pairs, are slightly wavy or curved, 20 to 45 centimeters long, 2 to 4 millimeters wide and contain many seeds. The flat, up to 9 millimeters long and narrow, elongated seeds have a tuft of hair up to 2 centimeters long at the ends.

The bark , leaves and roots are used medicinally.
The light, not very durable, easily tradable wood is used for some applications. It is known as Alstonia , Cheesewood , Stool Wood, or Emien .
