Old St. Martin

Alt St. Martin is the former Roman Catholic parish church of Wiesbaum in the Vulkaneifel district . Today the church is used as a cemetery chapel.

history

A parish church in Wiesbaum was mentioned for the first time in 1131, and it was also mentioned in Liber valoris around 1300. The church that exists today was built around 1500 as a single-nave construction of two bays with a choir closed on three sides . In the 18th century the sacristy was added to the east of the choir. The tower , perhaps from an older building, was described as a ruin in the 19th century and laid down and in its place the nave was extended by two bays to the west. The church was converted into a cemetery chapel when the new parish church of St. Martin was built further west in the village in 1927/28.
