from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Alta Via Val di Susa high-altitude trail is a high-alpine mountain hiking trail along the slopes of the Piedmontese Susa Valley and runs roughly halfway through areas of the Cottian Alps and the Graian Alps .

Route

The Alta Via Val di Susa connects Bardonecchia in the upper Susa Valley with the Colle del Lys in the lower Susa Valley. Over a length of around 100 km, the high path initially runs through the Cottian Alps, climbs above Forte di Exilles to over 3000 meters (highest point: Passo Galambra, 3078 m) and passes the border with France at Col de Clapier . Over the Mont-Cenis plateau and past the reservoir of the same name, the path leads into the Graian Alps and back on Italian territory to the Rifugio Cà d'Asti below the Rocciamelone , the highest pilgrimage site in the Alps. The Alta Via Val di Susa ends at the Colle del Lys via the passes Colle della Croce di Ferro (2548 m) and Colle di Coupe (2341 m), which are both passages into the southernmost of the three Lanzo valleys, the Val di Viù .

Sections of the Alta Via Val di Susa were integrated into the 'blue path' of the Via Alpina long-distance hiking trail .
