The Alte Kelter (also called Neuschloss or Neuer Bau ) in Lauffen am Neckar in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg is a historic building that is registered as a cultural monument and is currently used as a medical center, restaurant and hotel.

The massive, two-storey building has an elongated wing along Heilbronner Strasse. At the rear, on the north side, the building sits on the city wall . It is plastered and has corner blocks , stone window frames, arched doors and profiled door frames.

In 1568, Duke Christoph von Württemberg began building a castle-like building as a warehouse and armory in place of and on the foundation walls of the old wine press. The builder was probably Heinrich Schickhardt . Probably because Christoph died in the year construction began, the building was never completed. Some structural specifics of the building suggest that it was designed as a manor ; It has a stone spiral staircase, a very large cellar and an elaborate wooden structure on the upper floor.

From the end of the 16th century the building was used as a wine press , distillery , binding house , tithe barn and fruit box . It was owned by the Württemberg state until the early 19th century and then moved to the city of Lauffen. While the basement and ground floor were used as a warehouse as before, the city divided the upper floor into small apartments. Because of the location of the building in the cramped old town with no surrounding open space and because of its poor condition, demolition was temporarily considered. In 1983 the building came into private ownership and was then completely renovated. A hotel with a restaurant opened in the building. After another change of ownership in 2003, a maxillofacial surgery clinic moved to the ground floor, while the basement and upper floors continue to serve as a restaurant and hotel.
