The Roman Catholic Old Laurentius Church in Freudenberg in the Main-Tauber district was built from 1691 to 1692 and consecrated to St. Laurentius of Rome in 1697 .

history

The Laurentiuskirche was built from 1691 to 1692 in the old town center of Freudenberg. Earlier churches and chapels have already been mentioned at this point.

In 1957, a new Freudenberg parish church St. Laurentius was built as a spacious hall church made of local sandstone.

The old and new Laurentius Church belong to the pastoral care unit Freudenberg, which has been assigned to the Tauberbischofsheim deanery of the Archdiocese of Freiburg since a deanery reform on January 1, 2008 .

Church building and equipment

The old Freudenberger Laurentiuskirche was built as a baroque church with appropriate furnishings . In the middle of the 20th century the old parish church was in dire need of renovation and a decision was made to build a new one. Therefore, the gallery was removed from the church, henceforth called the “old Laurentius Church”, and the old altars and some of the figures were sold. These are now in the St. Brigida Church in Sasbach in the Black Forest .

Parish Church of Freudenberg

From the end of the 17th century, the old Laurentiuskirche served as Freudenberg's parish church. As the Freudenberg community continued to grow, the church eventually became too small, so that the new Laurentiuskirche was built in 1957.

Event space for culture and community

From the income from the sale of furnishings in the old Laurentius Church, it was poorly renovated in 1962 and later used as a worship room for weekday services. After a further renovation, the old parish church is now used as an event room for church and cultural purposes.
