Altenstadt is an Alsatian village. It was incorporated into the northwestern city of Wissembourg as Commune associée in 1975 .

geography

Altenstadt lies between the Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord biosphere reserve and the Lower Mundat Forest, immediately south of the border with Germany. The Wieslauter flows through the place.

The hamlets of Geitershof and Geisberg belong to Altenstadt.

history

Roman Catholic Church of St. Ulrich

In the Middle Ages Altenstadt and the surrounding villages belonged to the Weißenburger Mundat , the lands of the Weißenburg monastery . In 1521 half of the Altenstadt bailiwick came to the Electoral Palatinate .

Before the French Revolution, Altenstadt and Schweighofen belonged together. Altenstadt, Schweighofen, Schleithal , Oberseebach and the Schlettenbacher Tal formed the Altenstadt office at that time, which was jointly part of the Electoral Palatinate and the Weißenburg provost.

During the French Revolution , Altenstadt became part of the Bas-Rhin department .

When the boundary was drawn in the Second Peace of Paris in 1815, it belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria and there to the Land Commissioner Bergzabern .

In the border between Bavaria and France Convention of 1825 Bayern came from the Old City to France.

On January 1, 1975, Altenstadt was incorporated into Wissembourg.

The horseshoe can be found on the church windows of the Church of St. Ulrich, as well as on boundary stones dating from 1790.
