Mollath "and suddenly you're crazy" is a German documentary by Annika Blendl and Leonie Stade .
The film had its world premiere at the Munich Film Festival in June 2015 . It started in cinemas across Germany on July 9, 2015. The film was produced by Man on Mars Filmproduktion in coproduction with the University of Television and Film Munich and Bayerischer Rundfunk .

Gustl Mollath was admitted to the psychiatric penal system in 2006 because of several offenses he was accused of and simultaneous incapacity for guilt determined by an expert . After several instances over six years confirmed this briefing, numerous doubts arose in 2011 about the allegations against Mollath and the rule of law of the proceedings. After a successful retrial, Mollath was acquitted in a new main hearing in 2014, and it was also established that the requirements for placement (at the time of the new main hearing) were not met.
The case was discussed controversially in public because, in addition to the direct allegations against Mollath, there were also allegations of illicit money deals against employees of a German financial institution. In addition, Mollath accused his wife of wrongly accusing him and made serious allegations against politics, the judiciary and court experts. The case sparked a debate about placement in psychiatric clinics and shook the Bavarian judiciary.
The fact that the black money allegations were not extensively investigated in court also led to speculation that Mollath had become the victim of an intrigue to cover up these events. In particular, since an audit report of the bank that became public in 2012 found irregularities that partially confirmed Mollath's allegations.
