Old cemetery Karlsruhe
The old cemetery in Karlsruhe is the former municipal cemetery of the city of Karlsruhe. Since 1781, the city of Karlsruhe has used today's old cemetery as a burial place. However, as this soon became too small due to the general population growth of the city, the last burial took place there in 1882. Most of the funerals were already taking place at the Karlsruhe Main Cemetery, which was designed by Josef Durm and opened in 1874 .
The old cemetery is located southeast of Kapellenstrasse and is separated into a western and an eastern part by Ostendstrasse. At the eastern end of the old cemetery complex is the old Jewish cemetery in Karlsruhe with the grave of the famous chief rabbi Nathanael Weil , which is no longer used today. The old cemetery is located in the Oststadt district .
Todays use
Nowadays, the old cemetery consists only of the remains of individual cultural monuments and a few graves, the former chapel, a crypt hall and monuments as well as a green area with a sports and playground as well as boules .

In addition, various memorials ( memorial for the victims of the theater fire of 1847, Prussia memorial, memorial for the French soldiers who died in 1870/71 as a result of the aftermath of the war, war memorial of the city of Karlsruhe ) have been preserved.
