Wilhelm Friedrich Eisenlohr was the son of the Baden governor Wilhelm Eisenlohr and Caroline Henriette née Sachs.

Life

Eisenlohr studied mathematics and physics at the University of Heidelberg in 1817 . In 1819 Eisenlohr was appointed professor of mathematics and physics at the Lyceum in Mannheim . In 1840 he took over a professorship for physics at the Polytechnic Institute in Karlsruhe . As a scientist, Eisenlohr became known for optical investigations. He published these research results in his textbook on physics .

Eisenlohr founded the first trade school in Baden in Mannheim and in 1847 a school for watchmakers in the Black Forest . Until his retirement in 1865, Eisenlohr promoted the school system in the Grand Duchy significantly and successfully; The vocational schools in particular were very important to him.

He was a member of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Doctors . In 1869 he became an honorary member of the Association for Patriotic Natural History in Württemberg .
