Wilhelm Christian Griesbach
Wilhelm Christian Griesbach (born April 8, 1772 in Karlsruhe ; † April 16, 1838 there ) was the first Lord Mayor of Karlsruhe.
Griesbach was the owner of tobacco factories in Karlsruhe and Ettlingen as well as a leather factory in Rüppurr . In 1812 he was one of the co-founders of the first Karlsruhe music school and in 1813 of the later Chamber of Commerce. In 1818 Griesbach became a board member of the newly created Badischer Kunstverein and in 1819 became a member of the Badische Ständeversammlung , the first Baden state parliament. In 1833 a beneficiary's house was opened on his initiative, which offered help to the elderly and poor. In 1809, Griesbach was only directly elected as the second mayor of Karlsruhe after Johannes Sembach . The growing tasks of the city administration led them to hire a second mayor from 1812. Griesbach therefore carried the title of Lord Mayor from 1812 and thus became the first Lord Mayor of the city of Karlsruhe.
