The old tax office is a building in Darmstadt , which today houses several departments of the Darmstadt tax office.
Architecture and history
The old tax office was built in two stages. The western section was built in 1908 according to plans by the architect Paul Meissner . The second construction phase with clock turrets was built in the early 1930s . The reliefs made of red sandstone at today's main entrance were designed by the sculptor Fritz Schwarzbeck . In contrast to the east wing, the older west wing is richly decorated on the outside. On the west wing there are sandstone window frames , door frames and cornices . Stylistically, the four-storey building with its plastered facade and its gently sloping slate-covered roof belongs to the historicism phase .
Monument protection
For architectural and city history reasons, the building is a cultural monument .
