Altreichenau is a district of the municipality of Neureichenau in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau . Until 1978 it formed an independent municipality.

location

Altreichenau, which is characterized by hotel buildings, is located in the Bavarian Forest at the foot of the Dreisessel about two kilometers northwest of Neureichenau.

history

Around 1600 Achatz Reichenberger built a glassworks in Oberreichenau (Altreichenau) and a farm in Unterreichenau (Neureichenau). The place, also called Althütten , emerged after 1600 when the Dreisessel area was settled by the Counts of Salburg, the owners of the Rannariedl estate . Around 1667 the judge, Mautner and brewery manager Adam Göschl took over the glassworks in Reichenau and relocated it to Neureichenau, while Altreichenau developed into a glassmaking settlement. This belonged to the office and nursing court Jandelsbrunn and formed a main team in the Austrian Rannariedlischen Oberhofamt. It was not until 1765 that the area with Altreichenau was bought back to the Passau bishopric . The glassworks in Neureichenau existed until 1780.

The place was secularized in 1803 with most of the bishopric area in favor of Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany and his electorate of Salzburg and only fell to Bavaria in 1805. As a result, Altreichenau came to the Wolfstein Regional Court, formed in 1806, and to the Waldkirchen Regional Court, which was spun off from it in 1862 . The municipality of Altreichenau emerged with the Bavarian municipal edict of 1818 from the tax district Althütten I. Section Althütten. In 1862 it became part of the Wolfstein district office, from which the Wolfstein district emerged . Originally only the hamlet of Branntweinhäuser belonged to the municipality apart from Altreichenau / Althütten. More settlements gradually emerged, and with effect from January 1, 1946, Hinterfreundorf and Ostermühle were defeated by the community of Frauenberg to the community of Altreichenau.

In 1952 it included the districts of Altreichenau, Lackerau, Bernau, Binderbruck, spirits, distillers, Gänswies, Hinterfreundorf with Ostermühle, Loiblau, Pleckenstein, Röhrndlberg, Spitzenberg, Stubenberg and Zielberg. With effect from April 1, 1952, the village of Duschlberg was assigned by the municipality of Haidmühle . At the end of the 1960s, with the boom in tourism, several hotels were built. In 1970, the municipality of Altreichenau was among the then 38 municipalities in the area of today's Freyung-Grafenau district with a capacity of 806 beds in fourth place behind Grafenau , Waldkirchen , Spiegelau and Schönberg . On January 1, 1978, the municipality of Altreichenau was incorporated into the municipality of Neureichenau as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .

The parish of Altreichenau has existed since 1941. Part of the place is characterized by the Altreichenau holiday park. In 1987 Altreichenau had 438 inhabitants.
