Location of Aluminé

Aluminé is the capital of the department of the same name in the Neuquén province in southwest Argentina. This commune belongs to the communes of the 2nd category in the classification of communes in the province of Neuquén.

Toponymy

The word Aluminé comes from the Mapudungun language and means ' mirror '.

history

The city was founded on October 20, 1915 . Before the " conquest of the desert " the Kazike Reuque Curá dominated this area. The first “western” settlement, the Fortín Paso de los Andes , was established in 1884 .

The Croatian linguist Juan Benigar, who was an important researcher of the Mapuche culture, lived in this community . Today the public library bears the name of this linguist.
