Alvin Evans (born October 4, 1845 in Ebensburg , Cambria County , Pennsylvania , †  June 19, 1906 there ) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1905 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Alvin Evans attended his home public schools and then Iron City Business College in Pittsburgh . He then worked in the wood industry. During the Civil War he was briefly a soldier in a volunteer company from Pennsylvania, which should counter the advance of the troops of Robert E. Lee . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1873, he began to work in this profession in Ebensburg. He was mayor of this city for one term. For several years Evans was the legal representative of the Pennsylvania Railroad in Cambria County. He also got into the banking industry and was a co-founder and board member of the First National Bank of Ebensburg . He also sat on the local council and on the school committee of his home parish.

Politically, Evans joined the Republican Party . In the 1900 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 20th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Joseph Earlston Thropp on March 4, 1901 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1905 . Since 1903 he represented the 19th district of his state there. In 1904 he renounced another candidacy.

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Alvin Evans resumed his previous activities. He died on June 19, 1906 in his hometown of Ebensburg.
