Robert Jacob Lewis (born December 30, 1864 in Dover , York County , Pennsylvania , †  July 24, 1933 in Camden , Arkansas ) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1903 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Lewis attended public schools in York . In 1883 he graduated from high school. In the following years until 1889 he taught as a teacher in the public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree at Yale University and his admission as a lawyer in 1891, he began to work in York in this profession. In the years 1893, 1897 and 1903 he was elected School Controller for the City of York. In 1895 he also became the city's legal representative.

Politically, Lewis joined the Republican Party . In 1898 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress . In the elections of 1900 he was then elected in the 19th  constituency of Pennsylvania to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded the Democrat Edward Danner Ziegler on March 4, 1901 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1902, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1903.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Robert Lewis practiced as a lawyer again. He died in Camden on July 24, 1933.
