Intelligent design controversy

Dover gained national fame through a trial that took place between 2004 and 2005: Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District .

After the Dover Area School District administration was elected, the biology curriculum included:

  • The Pennsylvania Academic Standards require that students be taught Darwin's theory of evolution and take a standardized test on it.
  • Because Darwin's theory is just a theory , evidence must continue to be researched in order to prove it. However, the majority of the scientific community accepts them. There are gaps in the theory of evolution.
  • With regard to any theory, students are encouraged to keep an open mind. The school leaves the discussion about the origins of life to the individual students and their families.

Some of the students' parents, including Tammy Kitzmiller (after whom the trial was later named), sued the school administration, thereby justifying the trial. Judge John E. Jones III banned Dover Area School District from teaching intelligent design in science classes. Intelligent design is a religion and the US constitution demands the separation of church and state.

In November, all members of the school administration who supported intelligent design were voted out.
