Edward Danner Ziegler

Edward Danner Ziegler (born March 3, 1844 in Bedford , Bedford County , Pennsylvania , †  December 21, 1931 in York , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1901 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Ziegler attended the public schools in his home country. In 1865 he graduated from Pennsylvania College in Gettysburg . He then taught for some time as a teacher at the York County Academy . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1868, he began to work in this profession in York. In 1881 and 1883 he was a district attorney in York County . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In July 1884 he took part as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago , where Grover Cleveland was first nominated as a presidential candidate.

In the 1898 congressional elections , Ziegler was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 19th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded George Jacob Benner on March 4, 1899 . Since he was not nominated for re-election by his party in 1900, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1901 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Ziegler practiced as a lawyer again. From 1923 to 1925 he held various offices in the administration of York County. After that he continued his legal practice. He died in York on December 21, 1931.
