Joseph Earlston Thropp
Joseph Earlston Thropp (born October 4, 1847 in Valley Forge , Chester County , Pennsylvania , † July 27, 1927 in Québec , Canada ) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1901 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Joseph Thropp attended his homeland public schools and then Friends Central High School in Philadelphia . In 1868 he graduated from the Polytechnic College of Pennsylvania , where he was trained as a civil engineer. He then worked in this profession in Duluth ( Minnesota ) and Fond du Lac ( Wisconsin ), among others . Then he worked as a civil engineer for a railway company. From 1870 he lived in Conshohocken , where he got into the iron business. In 1888 he became the owner of the Earlston Furnaces Iron Works in Everett .
Politically, Thropp became a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1898 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 20th constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Josiah Duane Hicks on March 4, 1899 . Since he was not confirmed in 1900, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1901 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Joseph Thropp withdrew into retirement, he in Washington and Miami ( Florida spent). He died on July 27, 1927 while visiting Québec and was buried in Philadelphia.
