Ali Solomone Aga Khan , also known as Aly Khan , (born June 13, 1911 in Turin , Italy, † May 12, 1960 in Saint-Cloud , France) was a Pakistani prince .

The son of Aga Khan III. was Pakistani Ambassador to the United Nations in New York from 1958 to 1960 and Vice President of the UN General Assembly . His eldest son is Karim Aga Khan IV , the current head of the Ismailis .

Life

From 1936 to 1949 he was married to the former model Joan Yarde-Buller (1908-1997), the daughter of John Yarde-Buller, Baron Churston. With her he had two sons, Karim Aga Khan IV. And Amyn Aga Khan. After divorcing Yarde-Buller in 1949, Aly Khan married Rita Hayworth that same year , with whom he had a daughter, Yasmin Aga Khan. At the end of 1951, when the couple had already separated, a documentary entitled Champagne Safari was published about their second honeymoon. The marriage eventually ended in divorce in 1953. On May 12, 1960, Prince Aly Aga Khan had a fatal accident at the wheel of his Lancia near the French racecourse of Saint-Cloud when he collided with an oncoming car. The prince had banished his chauffeur to the back seat because he wanted to drive himself. The chauffeur and the prince's pregnant fiancee survived the accident.

The mausoleum of Aly Khan is in the Ismaili city of Salamiyya in Syria. A tomb ( Qubba ) was built there, in which the final burial ceremony took place in 1972.
