Amédée Tardieu

Amédée Tardieu (born August 18, 1822 in Paris , † May 14, 1893 ibid), actually Amédée-Eugène Tardieu, was a French geographer , librarian and diplomat .

biography

Amedee Tardieu comes from the family engraver Tardieu , but followed his brother, not this tradition. He studied at the École nationale des chartes , where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in humanities .

Like his father before him, in his capacity as a cartographer, he was appointed attaché in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1857 he was first as a simple librarian in the Bibliothèque Mazarine and from 1874 librarian at the Institut de France . He has been involved in many publications. He was considered an outspoken expert on ancient geography. This was evident in his main work, the translation of the works of Strabo . For this he received your gold medal from the Société de Géographie . He also received a cash award from the Association for Greek Studies. Last but not least, some time after its publication, it was to receive an award from the Académie française .

In 1852 he married the pianist Charlotte de Malleville . Their son André was the father of the politician André Tardieu .
