Amanda Aizpuriete
Amanda Aizpuriete (born March 28, 1956 in Jūrmala , Latvian SSR , now the Republic of Latvia ) is a Latvian writer .
life and work
Aizpuriete studied philology from 1974 to 1977 and philosophy from 1977 to 1979 in Riga and Moscow . 1980–1984 she spent at the Maxim Gorki Literature Institute . She published her first poems in 1976 in the literary magazine "Literatūra un Māksla". Rowohlt has published three volumes of poetry in German: The Shoals of Treason (1993), Lass mir das Meer (1996) and Babylonischer Kiez (2000). She also publishes translations and revisions from Russian, German, English, Lithuanian and Ukrainian, including translating Franz Kafka into Latvian.
Amanda Aizpuriete has four children and lives in Kauguri (Jūrmala).
Awards
Aizpuriete received the Horst Bienek Prize for Poetry in 1999 , which the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts awards. In 2013 she received the Ojārs Vācietis Prize.
