Amanda Levete

Amanda Jane Levete CBE (born November 17, 1955 in Bridgend , Wales , Great Britain ) is a British architect who has been the owner of AL_A (Amanda Levete Architects) in London since 2009 .

Life

Levete studied at the London Architectural Association School of Architecture and after graduating worked for architects such as Alsop & Lyall and YRM Associates. Approx. 1983–96 she practiced with Geoffrey Powis as Powis & Levete and from 1984–89 worked in the Richard Rogers Partnership. From 1989–2008 she was a partner in the Future Systems architecture office founded by her future husband Jan Kaplický . In 2009 she founded her own company AL_A.

Levete was married to Kaplický from 1991 to 2006 and has a son from this marriage. Today (2011) she is married to the director of the London Design Festival Ben Evans .

Levete is a visiting lecturer at the Royal College of Art in London and was on the board of Artangel until 2013 . She is also a trustee of the Young Foundation think tank . Levete can be heard and seen regularly on radio and television. She also writes articles for Building magazine .
